SMAN 2 Madiun uses various academic support system to address the needs of their students. Aside from taking vigorous tasks in classrooms, the students are also taking different activities given through immersion, technology-based outputs, and even school community involvements. Hence, making the child holistically developed.
The teaching system in SMAN 2 Madiun primarily deals on how to make the teaching-learning process more interactive. Mostly, the teachers used discussions, to illustrate a certain lesson and reporting, for the students to have self-discovery about the upcoming lessons.
Also, my supervisor, Ibu Yunita Wahyuningsih, used different methods of teaching that makes the lesson more interesting. She used games and motivational activities to catch the attention of her students.
Laboratories and Library are available inside the campus. They have science laboratories, computer laboratory and language laboratory. Also, for student leaders, they have an student council office. Other facilities are stated above.
In every end of the chapter lesson, the teachers are giving a paper-and-pencil test to measure their learning. The students were assessed in different methods. Just like in any other schools, SMAN 2 Madiun uses formative and summative assessment, and authentic assessment to determine the individual competence of each students. They assessed in various aspects of knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior.
Currently, SMAN 2 Madiun uses the 2013 Curriculum. Curriculum 2013 gives some strategies for teachers and students. Teachers will be more creative, while students will be more active. In the new curriculum, there is a scientific approach. This can be mentioned as a method. Teachers will not only teach but also facilitate students. So, the teachers are offering some models.
The teaching plan or lesson plan that my supervisor is using is somehow different in organization but the content is quite related to what I used to make. Also, their lesson plans were written in Bahasa Indonesia that's why I had some hard time understanding the sample lesson plan my supervisor gave me.
Observation on Teacher
Based on my observation, Ibu Yunita prepared the lessons based on the curriculum guide. She considered various activities that can measure the students' knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior.
Ibu Yunita prepared all her lessons and materials in her desk in the Faculty room. She wrote all the students' activities prior to her class hours for convenience. Also, she mastered the lesson first to herself before teaching.
My supervisor used the whiteboard to discuss the lesson for each day. She barely use the projector for it malfunction sometimes. So, the visual materials she wrote prior to her classes were posted on the board for illustrations of the topic. She managed her time well during the class that she met at least 80% of the students who mastered the lesson. According to her, time management inside the classroom will make you more efficient as a teacher there is a big possibility of meeting you objectives 100%.
Ibu Yunita used traditional method of measuring and evaluating. She gave a short paper-and-pencil test every after lesson to assess their learning and also to diagnose where the students are having hard time in understanding the lesson. Meanwhile, she also used reporting for more interactive learning. The students will discuss their research about the lesson so Ibu Yunita will just add some clarifications and provide more examples for the students.
